3.5 stars. I knew I would enjoy this book, just from the title, and I did. It wasn't the best thing I've ever read, but I enjoyed the premise of a young atheist starting at a new Catholic high school and finding a group of friends made up of a devout Catholic, a Jewish gay boy, a Celtic Reconstructionist Polytheist, and a Unitarian. I'm not religious at all but enjoy discussing religion and I liked how this book's characters expressed their beliefs and what their religion (or lack thereof) means to them. I also appreciated how it exposed so much hypocrisy...that type of discussion is right up my alley. The ending was a little underwhelming, but overall, it was a good book.

The characters in this were really great, they were all really layered but what I really liked that the main themes of the book were really just about tolerance and acceptance of all different kinds of people and people with all different beliefs.

Probably not the book for a former Catholic person who is queer, but it has some good moments and lessons.
I think this is a great book for a religious person who is looking for ways to make changes within their religion/church. It is a cute teen story with fun characters. Most of the Catholic school rules are quite similar to what I experienced at my Catholic school - I had actual flashbacks about kneeling for teachers to measure my skirt - so I think this gives good insight to those who did not attend Catholic school to see what that world is like.

One of the cutest and saddest coming of age story I’ve ever read.
I adored the multi religions aspect! It was such a relief to read a book like this that threw the Christian religion into a harsh light and then showcased other equally important (but less discussed) religions.
I did enjoy the way Micheal was portrayed- like an actual 16 year old who is tired of life and it’s bullshit.
Also, Lucy? Girl yes, be a priest. I loved this girl, she’s such a powerful girl without being overly annoying with that power and that makes me happy to read.

I love the respectful yet demanding way Katie Henry addresses religion. The characters are intelligent, curious, and inquisitive. They refuse to accept things as they are because they are hungry for more. I love that some characters are deeply devoted to wanting to know God, and others have little to no interest in learning about Him at all. These characters don't fit in, they question everything, they're not your picture-perfect Christians, but they're good. And sometimes good is good enough. I loved this book. 10/10 would recommend.

Mam problem z oceną tej książki. Podobało mi się, ale strasznie się denerwowałam na zasady tej szkoły, podejście nauczycieli, dyrektora i na zachowanie ojca głównego bohatera. No i strasznie dużo miałam flashbacków to swojej edukacji, która (poza studiami, na szczęście) była we właśnie takich miejscach. I chyba przez to, że temat był mi zbyt znajomy to nie mogłam podejść do tego na chłodno i jak do fikcji bo niestety tak (i jeszcze gorzej) wygląda to w praktyce. Mam dużo punktów wspólnych z głównym bohaterem i był na pewno jedną z lepszych postaci, ale to jak on leciał na jedną postać było komiczne i żenujące, w pewnym momencie poczułam się jakbym oglądała ,,Big Mouth" na Netflixie XD Akcje Anonimowych Heretyków, wytykanie na prawie każdym kroku absurdów i hipokryzji katolicyzmu bardzo na plus. Wątek romantyczny taki se. Mimo wszystko cieszę się, że przesłuchałam ten tytuł choć miałam zupełnie inne wyobrażenie o tym jaki będzie. Może kiedyś zrobię relistening.
Raczej nie poleciłabym tego jako lekkiego czytadła z racji miksu emocji jaki we mnie wzbudził, a na które chyba nie byłam gotowa. Jeśli ktoś się umie zdystansować od opresyjnej religii, zachowań rodziców, które są nie w porządku i homofobii to może spróbować. Ja jeszcze nie umiem, życie w Polsce gdzie KK ma się jak pączek w maśle nie ułatwia sprawy.

I adore this book! It is such an interesting discussion of religion and its flaws, and what it can mean to different people! I found it absolutely fascinating!
My only tiny criticism is I'd hoped it would just be a story about friends and not a romance but I was a sucker for the romance nonetheless!
