I saw the movie back in 2007 and never read the book. I happened upon it in my local bookstore and decided to give it a shot.
This was great. A very enjoyable and effortless read.
Also, did you know Daredevil and Superman were in the movie? I need to watch it again now.

I am a big fan of Neil Gaiman and I love this movie. Unfortunately, this book did not live up to my expectations. I couldn't connect with the story or any of the characters and I found myself bored and desperate to finish to get it over with. This is one of the only books where I'd say the film is better.

4.5: magical and effortlessly wonderful! Kudos, Mr. Gaiman!

4/5 stars.
I need to start off by mentioning I grew up with the film adaptation of this book and I absolutely adored it and if I'm going to be completely honest, the book didn't feature a lot of my favourite parts of the film which was a disappointment.
However, viewing it beyond that lens, this book feels like a wonderful adult fairytale. This is one of my first adult fantasies and it managed to remain easy and light to read while still succeeding the complexities of the young adult fantasy I've grown accustomed to.
The ending fell a little short for me, especially considering the differences between the film and the book, but I felt it kept the book consistent with the mythical/fairytale style.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre but I would also throughly recommend you invest the time into watching the film as well.
