I enjoyed it! I wish the sex scene in chapter one was a little more toned down and the book went by too fast! I wanted more. I love the movie adaptation.
Stardust by Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite books and I also loved the movie.
If I could give it three and a half stars, I would, because I really did enjoy it. But for the first time in my life - and trust me, I am as shocked about what I am about to admit as I am sure you, my fellow bibliophiles, will no doubt be - I have to say... I liked the movie better.
I know, I know, sacrilege! And that's not to say that the book wasn't still fun and enjoyable and a fairly quick read once you get past the first few chapters, but it was also - to put it bluntly - significantly less exciting then the movie, and I found it a bit lacking over all.
Minor spoilers below, read at your own risk. I'll even leave Spoiler Space because I am courteous like that. :)

It skipped over huge chunks of the adventuring that Tristan and Yvaine did - adventures that the movie, in turn, actually fleshed out quite significantly, and which were actually my favorite parts of the film, so I felt a bit bereft when all they got in the book was a few pages and, in a sad number of cases, only a single sentence. It also kind of annoyed me how Yvaine spent most of the book hating Tristan only to, almost like a flip of a switch (though in her defense, it kind of surprised her as well), suddenly find herself rather in love with him. I get it, this is not a romance and honestly, I'm totally good with the whole lack of romance thing. But I am not really okay with the lack of RELATIONSHIP building, or even friendship building - building that COULD have been fleshed out a bit in all those adventures that were skipped over.
Also, no real climax to speak of. The fight at the inn about halfway through the book is pretty much it. Then it's just walking and talking and hitching rides back to Wall. Pretty boring, actually.

This is a beautifully crafted fairy tale, with interwoven stories that resolve in satisfying and unexpected ways. Gaiman's writing is as delightful as ever, always with a tiny touch of horror in his fantasy, as well as humour and warmth. I listened to the audiobook narrated by him and it was an even better experience than reading the physical copy.
It’s not hard to own something. Or everything. You just have to know that it’s yours, and then be willing to let it go.
I have a sneaky feeling that perhaps I wouldn’t have enjoyed this book as much if I hadn’t seen the (absolutely perfect) movie adaptation first. But I enjoyed it a lot nonetheless, so there ya go

Nette Geschichte, aber ich hatte mir mehr erhofft. Immer wenn es Potential für Spannung hatte, war die Geschichte stark zusammengefasst in ein paar Sätzen. Da hätte man mehr draus machen können.
