This failed to be insightful or entertaining, really disappointing writing. Read "The Force of Such Beauty" instead!

If you're into high fashion this book is for you. There was so much name dropping, I felt like I was reading a Vogue magazine instead. The ending was the best part and that felt very rushed.

This would probably be a 2.5 stars for me. Parts were engaging and interesting but other parts just weren't and it went on way too long. It started as a murder mystery at a high end fashion magazine. There was some romance thrown in and an on-going investigation. But then it seemed like a huge chunk of the mystery was solved but the book kept going. Then we spent WAY too much time in the world of the fashion and appearances with just so much detail it was almost overwhelming. There was also a bit of social critique on the demands put on women's appearance but out protagonist didn't seem to learn the lesson so the message felt undercut. Eventually we got back to the mystery and the end was fairly satisfactory. I should have abandoned this book but it started out pretty well and then I just kept trying to power through and felt I had invested too much time to just give up.

I was a little disappointed with the plot of this book. It was sold as this thriller/mystery, which I love, but halfway through reading this I stopped and wondered, "wait... what am I reading?" I stuck it out to the end but the plot, to me, just seemed to fall flat.

I went into this book thinking it would be more of a thriller, but it turned out to be a holiday read chick-lit novel instead. As someone who isn't really interested in the fashion world, I think the book catered to a reader with more knowledge of the industry than I do. I did enjoy the relationship between Cat and Bess, and found those segment more enjoyable than the romance between Cat and Detective Mark Hutton.

definitely reads like a debut as it lacks some polishing, but i Love books with deep girly detail of outfits, beauty, glamour, love a suspicious death, felt the parts about disordered eating deep in my chest
