It took me a long time to make it through this book but here i am. It was around 3,5 stars for me. I was a bit lost with the style and when there's no actual plot it's very difficult for me to follow. By the end i started to connect with it as someone who is also searching for my own place in the world and seeking that connection with my family and my roots. As i recently lost a family member it had a special heaviness and it touched me so much i cried a couple of times.

This book is, in a word, unusual. The author structures it like a travel journal, each day demarcated like an almanac, but instead of days filled with tourism and exploration, she writes of her country, her past, and ruminates on the philosophical, the mundane, the potential of the future. Parts of this book are beautiful, but parts dragged on for me -- particularly in the second half. Although thin in size, this book is deceptively dense and rather slow-moving. I waded through it in pieces.
