Although I really like the characters in this series this book did not have the angst the first two did so lost a star over that. Matthew and Dee were just meant to be and it is not a spoiler as we know from the second book they get together. So there was no suspense in wondering if they were going to make it as a couple. Still a very enjoyable read and I look forward to the fourth and final book.

We finally get Dee's and Matthew's story and it was just as wonderful as Drew and Kat's. Changing the player and uncovering the woman behind the larger than life persona makes for a wonderful read. Extreme opposites that are the true meaning of love.

Občas sa fakt zamýšľam nad tým, že ma bavia takéto knihy. Klišé, láska, odluka a happily ever after. Ale Boh vie, že to milujem. Pff, byť ženou je ťažké :D

Tamed Emma Chase
Tamed (Tangled 3) by Emma Chase
Inter related, romantic comedy series. Male POV
Tamed by Emma Chase is more of a companion book to Tangled than the third in the series, so if you haven't gotten to Twisted (book 2) yet or Holy Frigging Matrimony (book 1.5, included in Tamed), that's OK. In fact, If, like me, it's been a year since you read Tangled, I would recommend a re-read for maximum enjoyment. Do you have to read Tangled first? No, Tamed totally stands on it's own. But it takes place at the same time as Tangled did, and it's about Drew's best friend Matthew, and Kate's best friend, the crazy Dee-Dee. So it filled in a lot of the holes that you didn't realize were there in Twisted, and answers a lot of lingering questions.
“Stick around, even if you think you already know the ending. Because the greatest part of a road trip isn’t arriving at your destination. It’s all the wild stuff that happens along the way.”

Don't get me wrong. This isn't a retelling of the same scenes. This is completely Matthew and Dee's story, but, being best friends, there is a good deal of crossover. Tamed is from Matthew's point of view, and let me say, Emma kicks ass at the first person guy-speak. Even more, I love how she breaks down the wall, and talks to the reader.
"I feel it's my duty to educate others, get the word out, about how to decode guy-speak. Think of me as a studlier version of Edward Snowden or Julian Assange. Maybe I should start my own website--I'd call it DickiLeaks. On second thought, that's a shitty name. Sounds like an STD symptom."

There is obviously still a LOT of humor, but Matthew was less of a douche than Drew, so we had a lot of sweet too.
“My life changed about four weeks ago. On a normal, average day-when I met a girl who was anything but average.”
"Before she uttered her first word to me, I was in lust with Delores Warren's rack."

Okay, so maybe not so sweet. But Matthew saw himself settling down sometime. He wasn't a committed life-long bachelor like his friend Drew (haha). But Dee-Dee, the gorgeous, slutty dressing rocket scientist, wasn't into relationships. She'd been burned one too many times. But a hook-up? That she could do.
"Delores is a gorgeous name, for a gorgeous girl. Plus, it rhymes with clitoris…and I really know my way around them. Big fan."

And my favorite thing was in this book in spades. Banter.
"You're Clit-boy until you give me a reason to think of you as something else.'
I lean in closer. Goosebumps rise on the flesh of her chest as my breath tickles her ear. "By the end of this night, I'll have you calling me 'God.'"

Dee may be every guy's dream, wanting a relationship free hook-up, but Matthew was feeling more than just the sex vibe. Dee Dee was crazy, but she was crazy hot. As a How I Met Your Mother fan, I loved this quote:
"Plus as Barney Stinson has already explained, Delores is hot enough to be as bat-shit crazy as she wants to be, and I still won't kick her out of bed."

the-hot-crazy-scale-how-i-met-your-mother-barney-stinson-hot-demotivational-poster-1234586298

There was more to the relationship pretty quickly, including meeting the families and the adorable MacKenzie and her bad word jar.
"I think Uncle Drew is right. Prince Charming really is a douche bag."

And Matthews mother??? Hahaha...I will leave that for you to read.

Dee isn't looking for a relationship. Luckily, sweet Matthew gets it, and he won't let her get away with it...at least for a while. But he wants all of her.
"I don't just want Dee to come hard, I want to please her. I want her to feel happy, cherished--in or outside the bedroom. And I want to be the reason she feels that way."

Likes:

  • •I love that we are back to the male point of view.

  • •Matthew is the sweeter, less dickbaggy version of Drew, and he's still funny.

  • •Matthew has a surprise in his pants (probably not what you think!). I think it's cool Emma went there.

  • •I love the wall between character and audience broken down. Matthew talks to the audience like Drew and Kate did in previous books.

  • •Filled in many holes from Tangled.

  • •Still funny as hell.

  • •Good sex scenes.

  • •The references to Fifty Shades.

  • •I loved Matthew! He's such a good guy!

Dislikes:

  • •There were a few instances where there is no way a man would be thinking those thoughts, especially during sex. "With my moist, heated tongue, I trace her cropped, flaxen landing strip.....I sink into her laving and sucking...I open her lips with my fingers and dance over her knotted bud with my tongue." I don't know, it all sounded a little too eloquent to be a "guy".

  • •I wished I did a brush-up of Tangled, or even more, just had a page reference to the scene in Tangled when it happens in Tamed. We see Drew and Kate, but they aren't really together yet, though we only know what Matthew sees.

  • •I would have liked a little more of Dee-Dee at work. I had a hard time with the rocket scientist part of her personality.

Tamed was a great addition to the series! I wasn't wholeheartedly in love with the second book, Twisted, the way I loved this one. It's the guy's POV that Emma really excels at, and I was glad to see another male POV book from her. Matthew's voice was funny, but a little sweeter than Drew's, and I thought it was great how Emma really differentiated the two. Tamed is as much fun as Tangled was, but now that we expect it from Emma, it may not be as outwardly obvious to people how fun the book is. If you loved Tangled (and who doesn't?), you will certainly love Tamed.
“I want to be the reason for your smiles”

My ARC copy of Tamed had Holy Friggin' Matrimony at the end, and ended at about 92%. I am not sure if the mass market copy does or not.

Emma went and pulled a dick move with this one!! And what I mean by this, I can't decide which asshole I love better or which one I would want to hold prisoner in between my thighs...

Matthew is a lot like Drew but not as stubborn or pigheaded. He is like the nicer of the two evils but he was just as hilarious and his story was just as wonderful. I loved being inside his mind and loved seeing all the nasty stuff he liked to do... I was definitely not disappointed! I was tempted to do the whole one-handed reading thing for a couple of those parts because ~ahem~ it was HOT!! (ok maybe I DID do the whole one-handed read... ;)

While reading Tangled, I knew I was going to love Dee because of how crazy, obnoxious, and hilarious she was in that book and we get a lot of that same behavior from her in Tamed but even better. She's crazy, smart, opinionated but very vulnerable where it matters. She doesn't take shit from anyone but she also had a lot of bad luck in the past when it came to men in her life. She's closed off and Matt just wants to open her up in both the heart and vagina... ok maybe her brain too but let's be real here, Matt is a man and men usually have one track minds...

But he was patient and persistent and it didnt hurt that he was built like a lean boxer with abs for days... My vagina's sweating just picturing him, so if Dee didn't steal him, I would have!!

I really loved how Emma went back to the parts of Tangled that always had me wondering what was going on with Matt and Dee. I only wish I would have refreshed my memory with Tangled before diving into Tamed. People don't need to do this because the books are standalones but if you have poor memory like me, then it won't hurt!

So the inevitable question is what the heck do I rate this book and my answer is simple... This book deserves 5 "hilarious, sexy, and one handed read" Stars!!!

My Dearest Drew,
I realize that this isn't your book but I'm writing this review letter to you because I feel like you need to know that Matthew has given you a serious run for your money. In fact, unless you have some thing hidden up your sleeve, I think that Matthew may have just swooped in and stolen my affection straight away from you.
I mean, good god, the man is hot, he's smart, he's driven and he's freakin hilarious! Yes, I realize that you are all of these things and more but you also tend to be bit of an asshole. Matthew does not.
Also, it seems you have a bit of a problem by not being in Dee Dee's good graces. I'm pretty sure that you know that her bad side is not where you want to be. She's a firecracker and we all know that her kind of "different" isn't necessarily a safe kind of different. You might need to get that worked out pretty soon.
Matthew and Delores together could certainly be your downfall. They're spunky and fun, laid-back yet refined, sweet and sarcastic, but mostly they're fucking hilarious and that my friend makes for a lethal combination.
I think that I could read about the two of them for days and still not get enough.
Let's see what you bring to the show in Tied. I'm thinking that you better bring your A game!
Tangled, Twisted and Possibly Tamed by Matthew,
Jaime
