The first issue of La Borniquena told the origins of Marisol's powers and her friendship with LaLa. I got the cover with El Yunque for the second issue. I love how Miranda involves his characters in the environmental and political conflicts on the island after hurricane Maria. Marisol is learning how to use her powers while trying to untie the island. She struggles with separating herself from La Borinquena. The cliffhanger at the end has me excited for her next adventure.

Now Hurricane Maria has come and La Borinquena is working with the island people to rebuild. This volume ends with a HUGE cliffhanger!

This was a fun read and I love the mix of English and Spanish. The plot and themes are really interesting, especially the focus on Taino ancestry. The ending left me wanting to read the next book ASAP.

Still really enjoying La Borinqueña as a superhero. Not finding the plots super compelling and the villians seem a little cardboard-y, but I am really enjoying hanging out with Marisol and her friends and family a lot.
