Nothing short of fascinating book. I enjoyed the Vikings TV show and have a vision based upon that and other media of what Viking life consisted of. Reality is both the same and different. I appreciated the depth of research, but also the attempt to make the book accessible. The chapter breakdowns and the section headings make sense and build on each other in a background growth kind of way. The author does a great job of bringing the reader through the (his)story of the vikings, instead of lecturing the reader.

I read a fair anount of history (mixed in with everything else) and this is probably the worst I’ve read yet. Good information, but it’s presented like a textbook and it hops around with no through line. I didnt want a textbook. I want a book
