I like avatar and this book helped me get into reading again 5*
5/5 • Wow just wow. To start, I love Avatar and the series as a whole, but just even this book alone tore me to shreds, stapled me back together, and then tore me to shreds again.
Can we just talk about the characters and their individual growth and their growth as a whole because I cannot stop thinking about this book. Even when I wasn’t reading, I was replaying the scenes in my head.
Avatar Kyoshi is and always will be one of the best Avatars in the timeline, and this book truly does her justice.

DNF 55% ish
so i didn't know this heading in but in this book kyoshi is lesbian (or maybe bi?? idk idrc) and that's a big no. uhh so yeah in my mind this book is not canon.
lgbt aside tho it wasn't that bad. i was gonna give it a three until i realized it was queer. it was very interesting and fun for someone who loves atla, but..... ugh why does so much have to be gay now???

i really appreciated learning more about Kyoshi. i recently rewatched ATLA and TLOK and i felt the need to learn more about past avatars. Kyoshi’s character was intriguing to me. i like how F.C. Yee wrote her character and that he actually showed her character growth and allowed her to still be a teenager and fall in love (i love the romance sm). i’m so glad i read this book!
