To be completely honest, the fact that a lot of this book took place in fairyland made it a little harder for me to remain engaged, but I'm willing to overlook that because in the end I still feel like it ended the trilogy well, and it's a freaking pandemic, chances are my reading focus isn't a hundred percent. The characters were true to themselves, I enjoyed the different alliances being made even when they were a little hard to follow, and I was satisfied with the conclusion.

This novel adds much richness to the world and story of the Arcadia Project, although I will say Phantom Pains remains my favorite of the series. I continue to resonate deeply with Millie, even as she baffles me at times. This series is so powerfully character driven, and has such a great conception of fae and magic. I also love how the "sides" are more complex than an absolute "right" vs "wrong," and how considered Millie is in assessing who she stands with and against at a given moment.

Notes:

Narration was fine. The characteristics & plot points for the Fae world were great but 65% of the series is about how Millie "feels". It was ambitious attempt to have a main character with a particular series of disabilities, but I never felt like it was well established. It also doesn't help that the key points are told at the reader vs written to be experienced.

Man I wish this series was longer, and not just because it's incredibly refreshing to see a protagonist who gets upset about the same kind of dumb nonsense that I do. I'm going to miss every single character. Especially notable were the chapters in screenplay format, which reflected how Millie sees the world (as interpreted by another character) and were genuinely funny and creative.

Although my life got in the way a lot with this book I still enjoyed it very much. I like this series and am very hopeful there will be more. it's a terribly original approach to urban fantasy and the fae.

I would love to spend more time with these inordinately real and broken characters.

It felt a bit rushed, compared to the previous books.

Like the other two books in the series, this one was fun, fast-paced, and diverse. But I was kind of hoping for something to be added to that? It's fine as a conclusion to the story, but didn't really go much beyond what the other books had already done. So it kind of feels like the one to tie up the knots, but not the one to provide you with the most exciting plot of the series. And I still don't get the whole romance "plots", to be honest.
But yeah, it's still definitely a very enjoyable, solid 3-star read.

Reading a book from the POV of someone with bdp is really really rough at times - while I think Baker is a compelling author, I struggled through the first two books in the series because the main character's voice was really rough on me. This book, because it is so action focused, was a little easier for me to get through, because I wasn't constantly screaming at the protagonist while trying to enjoy the book. I also really enjoyed the different writing styles Baker employed, as it was both interesting to read and added to the story telling process. I do think this book is the best in the series (if I could give it a solid 3.5 stars I would), though I do not think you could jump straight in - I was really lost in the first section of the book, as I picked this up after almost a year from reading the first two and I had forgotten a LOT. While this is listed as the last book in the series on goodreads, I'm certainly interested to see if the author comes out with more. I think she's gotten a very good hold on Millie's voice, and I really like the world she's set up so far.

This was a really good conclusion to this series. I overall enjoyed Millie's character development and the plot of this. Sometimes I felt like things were dragging, and this probably could have been a little shorter, but it was enjoyable and concluded the story well.
