4.5 Stars. Anne is my comfort reading. I thought I had read this one a long time ago, but I realized that I hadn't made it this far in the series (even though I've read the first three more times than I can count). While it isn't as good as the first three, in my opinion, I'm glad that it is closer to them than Anne of Windy Poplars. NOTE: I was trying to read other books during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I just couldn't focus. I realized that I needed Anne. I'm so very glad that I started reading this. It calmed me and was just what I needed.
nice to know that after so many years this series is still as near and dear to my heart (;

“Changes come all the time. Just as soon as things get really nice they change.”
I’m actually really sad I gave this book four stars especially since I gave the last three five. I know for sure if I had a goodreads when I read this book the first time I would’ve given this book five stars just because it’s apart of my favourite childhood series, however times has changed and so has my mindset and thinking, which is why I chose this quote from the book this time.
I’ll start with what I loved about the books as well as what part of Anne I loved the most from this book. I love Captain Jim, Miss Cornelia, and I also love how I changed my mind on Leslie and sweet Owen Ford. Captain Jim’s stories about his life and how he’s sees life is absolutely amazing and I always loved how much Miss Cornelia looks over everyone at Four Winds. As for Leslie, I gave her a lot of crap the first time I read this book and I did during an update. However I looked much deeply into her this time and I heart gave out to her. How many twists and turns can one person take in a life? I’m glad she gets her happy ending though.
As for what I loved about Anne this time is her understanding and compassion, not only for the people around her, but for herself. Especially when she does go through something traumatic, she takes time for herself and surrounds herself with the people she truly cares about only if she allows it.
Now with what I didn’t like... Gilbert what the fuck? LOL! Again years ago, I would’ve pushed away Gilbert’s slight actions and words used. However, just because I am literally in love with his character, doesn’t mean I haven’t seen his flaws this time around. Seriously? In my eyes it was all “my way or the highway” with him in this book and how he talked about Leslie’s choices with her unhappy marriage? Without truly thinking about reasons behind it? Just that she made a choice when she was young and regretted it? Yeah not a big fan of that at all.
Also I miss Paul Irving and little Davy Keith in this book a lot more than before. I loved those two little boys from the previous two books haha.
Well those are my reasons behind the four stars. Two more books to go :)

This one took me a little longer than the last 2 as I read them so fast I got only slightly a little bit Anne-d out. But after watching the movie, I was so extremely happy and ready to return to deer old Prince Edward Island, and to my beautiful Anne and charming Gilbert. This book had one true pure shock, which I feel everything else “shocking” has been spoilt for me by things I’ve seen on the internet so I knew they were coming, this one thing though, it was such a revelation I had to tab it. And oh Captain Jim, what a gem, he was a beautiful soul.
