Love. Anne and Gilbert's first home and the start of their lives together. Love the history of the home, the story of Leslie Moore and captain Jim. Anne's growing up and liked watching how she reacts to the inevitable sadness that life brings, and how she and Gilbert navigate married life. As always Anne makes me happy and grateful.

I think this will end up being my favorite book of the series! Montgomery did such a great job of weaving the romance and heartbreak of existence together. It's a book that sparkles with life and I found myself laughing and crying at so many instances. Especially to be remembered are chapter 19 and chapter 39! And the twist with Dick Moore

After being so disappointed by Anne of Windy Willows I'm so happy that Anne's House of Dreams is much more like the previous books in the series - full of endearing characters, plenty of flowers and Anne-worthy romance.

This instalment follows Anne and Gilbert's first few years together in their 'house of dreams' and everything that comes with married life and living in a new town. I love the new characters introduced in House of Dreams and unlike in Windy Willows they are actually present throughout the whole book instead of just a few chapters and then never heard from again. I fell in love with Captain Jim and Leslie as easily as I fell in love with Diana and Phil and Miss Lavendar. Anne and Gilbert continue to be totally adorable and I look forward to following their story some more.

I felt with this much the same as I've felt about the other Anne of Green Gables books. Please see those review for further opinions. I don't have much to add here aside from the lack of familiar characters save for Gilbert.
I am glad I read these books, but I am also glad to take a break from them.

“Happiness for you all— though, mind you, I reckon, you’ll have your troubles and worries and sorrows, too. They’re bound to come— and no house, whether it’s a palace or a little house of dreams, can bar ‘em out. But they won’t get the better of you if you face ‘em together with love and trust. You can weather any storm with them two from compass and pilot.”

I was a little nervous about this book because a lot of reviews for this were mixed, but I ended up really liking this story.

The first half is a bit of a day to day life of Anne and Gilbert as newlyweds and them moving to a new house for their new lives, but it slowly progresses more and more as they befriend new neighbors and start taking the steps to start their own family.

I definitely cried a good couple times while reading this and even during the slower paced part of the book, I was enamored with the author’s writing style and words. L.M. Montgomery has a way with words and is able to create an atmosphere that is perfect for any season. You could read these books in autumn and it’ll feel like an autumn book, but you could also read them in winter, spring, or summer and it somehow just fits for any time of year.

I have been adoring this series, I’m started to get sad I’m getting closer to finishing it!

The beginning of Anne and Gilbert’s life together...and it’s just lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed the new characters, Captain Jim, Leslie, and Cornelia, and their stories. There is also the introduction of housekeeper, Susan, who is always “at the helm”. Delightful.

3.5/5 stars

Not my favorite in the series, but still charming and sweet. I feel like the series definitely slowed down at this point, although I still love all the characters and their adventures. But I do feel that the adventurousness of the series trickled away. This one is also a bit less humorous than some of the earlier books, but I think that’s due to the seriousness of some of the happenings. I don’t fault the book for that lacking, but I did miss it. Still, I’m excited to continue as always.
