Hannah Vogel has spent the past three years in Bolivia after fleeing Berlin with Anton, the son of Ernst Rohm, head of the Nazi Party SA, which was supplanted in 1934 by the SS, headed by Himmler. Rohm was put in front of firing squad. Hannah is traveling to Switzerland on a zeppelin, which is diverted into Germany by Rohm, a few days before his death. Hannah and Anton are seized, and Anton is carried off to the home of Rohm's mother in Munich. Hannah follows, when she escapes from Rohn, after his death. Rohm's mother begs Hannah to claim Rohm's body for her. She travels to Berlin and gets caught up in the continuing turmoil as the Nazis consolidate power and purge undesirables. Hannah is determined to rescue Anton and must be creative in her efforts.
