Audiobook. This was a unique coming of age story that incorporated big topics like race, sex, friendship, grief, mental health, money, and family in a way that felt very natural. I loved the story, characters, and narrator.

Thank you @netgally for my ARC of Maame by Jessica George. It was a gorgeous debut novel. It is a story of a young woman finding herself amidst hard times and grief. The writing is lovely and Maddie is a character that stays with you.

Maddie is in her mid 20s and her life is turned upside down. She loses her job and her dad has Parkinson's. She has a rocky relationship with her mom, who lives in Ghana. She is also trying to navigate dating, friendships, and finding herself. It is a sad story, but also one of hope.

Damn. This book was written for the eldest daughters, especially if you're a second generation immigrant. Maame is relatable, lovable, and sad. It made me feel all the feels and I loved it.

I loved this main character…

I loved this… a fresh and unique coming of age story that I could really relate to. Lots of wisdom about mental health and grief is interspersed throughout the story as well.
