This is a 3.5 star for me. There are parts of this novel that I absolutely loved AND there are parts that frustrated me to no end. Worth the read either way.
I wasn’t sure if this was going to live up to the hype at first, & I am still not sure if it does BUT I did love this mid-20s coming of age story & Maddie. I found her character evolution to be wonderful & couldn’t help but root for her & feel defensive of her. While Maddie & I are different in many ways, I think there are elements of her story many women can relate to in some way— for me it was through her family relationships, particularly her role in the family & her relationship with her mother. Overall, a wonderful story & a literary character who will stick with me for a long time.

This has now become one of my favorite books. Capturing grief as a young woman while having to still grow up is a hard feat and this was done perfectly. Deeply relatable and personal, I loved reading this
