It’s not fair to say it was a slow start because I was definitely in a reading rut but regardless it took me awhile to get past the first 50 pages. But i ended up really enjoying and loving this book. A truly special view of grief and her descriptions and processes felt very deep and true. I was so rooting for Maddie, loved this.
A lovely, melancholy-but-hopeful novel. I fell in love with Maddie and rooted for her as life (and her family) tried to hold her back. I hope this book gets all the positive attention it deserves.
It was a little slow to start, but I ended up really enjoying it.

This was a good one. Could be me feeling this way, as I just lost my father a year ago, so those tones of grief in this book definitely resonated with me. Although the main character is almost 10 years my junior, there was so much I found myself identifying with. I’m the oldest daughter, and the character is the youngest, but our roles in our families were similar. I also definitely felt a kinship to how much she loved her true friends and also Maddie experienced friendships that only serve a purpose for a season. Maddie was a main character that you just wanted to root for.

3.75 roundup. This one was so hyped up, I feel like I’m doing a disservice by thinking it didn’t meet the hype. But it was good. Part of me wishes it started at the end and kept going from there, with flashbacks to integral parts of the rest of the book. However, it was as relatable as people said, and the story and POV and lessons included were great. It just fell a little short for me. But still a good and real story.
This wasn’t a book I absolutely loved, but a lot of the themes in the book really made me think and feel for the author.
Fast read. Sad and funny. Thank goodness I never have to experience online dating. I could have used about 100 less instances of the word “whilst” being used.
This was a good read. It started off soooooooo slow, I almost didn’t get far, but soon enough something happened and the plot picked up. I should note that I listened to the audiobook, which was cool, because Jessica George read it and did all the different accents.
Trigger warning with dealing with elderly adults. But well-told story of immigrant kids. The details were written very well, it was easy to imagine the whole story - what people looked like, their presence. I liked or disliked certain characters based on these details. There was a lot of cursing (another warning), but sprinkled in.
