I’m not sure I’ve ever connected with a book as much as this one, or resonated with a character as much as Maddie. This book perfectly captures what it’s like to lose a parent in your mid twenties and have to figure out who you are in the aftermath. A beautiful book as delightful as it was heartbreaking.
pulled me out of a reading slump! This has the making of a lot of things I love in lit-fic: child/parent dynamics, what it looks like for a black woman her her 20s to be a in a transition period of her life, and a novel where a city (London here) feels central to the narrative.
A beautiful book about the journey of life and grief.
Maame felt almost relatable in the aspect of the anxiety of growing up and being pushing into a role of being responsible as well as older than your age without wanting to be placed in that box. The turmoil you feel in trying to break free of that box and be able to live your life without feeling guilty.
I loved the mental health aspect and that she actually goes to therapy to work on herself. I hope this author writes more novels because she is able to write in a way that’s understandable and meaningful.
Trigger warnings of death, grief and panic attacks.

Mamme by Jessica George attempts to tackle the complexities of family and identity but ultimately falls flat. The protagonist’s struggles between duty and self-discovery feel underdeveloped, and the characters lack depth, making it hard to connect emotionally. While the writing is competent, it often leans on clichés, and the story never fully engages. The book has potential but doesn't deliver, leaving a sense of missed opportunity for readers seeking a more impactful exploration of generational and cultural conflict.

Wow.. absolutely incredible. I cried numerous times throughout.

Easy 5 star rating. One of my new favorite books this made me feel so many things and was so devour-able. I felt so connected to the characters and the writing was so beautiful. Loved.
