This is a remarkable book. The voice and the writing made me think of Margaret Atwood for sure, not to mention the speculative fiction aspect. It takes place in the near future when a memory procedure called a "removal" is a fairly standard practice by a company called Nepenthe. The procedure, called a "wipe" in slang (Nepenthe does not approve of the slang, it is a removal, thank you) has two subsets, the patients who know it's been done and the patients who have even the memory of the removal taken away. The story is told from I think five points of view, by someone who works there and others who are connected with Nepenthe in ways that aren't immediately clear. I loved the way the plot lines came together and the various points of view were exceptionally well-handled, I never got mixed up about which character I was following. This seems like it could happen, anytime. I could not stop reading this book, I read it in one weekend. Terrific book. Would read another by this author for sure.
I’m still not entirely certain where I land on this one. It was very interesting. There were parts that were long and I was sometimes confusing the characters. The last quarter of the nook however was excellent. I’ve always wanted to have a few memories just excised from my brain, and I have never thought of the repercussions of that. This book explores the complexities of that.

What a fascinating book. A killer premise well executed with plenty about identity, connection, and what it really means to remember. Loved this.

I love the concept of this book, but I was disappointed by it.
Sometime in the future, there’s a company called Nepenthe. It has the ability to wipe memories. Would you get rid of your worst kept memories? Better yet, if you found out you had… would you choose to get it back?
This is several people’s stories, from several different points of view - all coming together at the last possible second. Oscar, William, Mirande, and Mei have a decision to make about their memories and whether or not the lives they’ve been living, with a sinking feeling that something is missing, is better or worse than whatever it is they wiped.
This book is hard to rate. It was simply one big mystery 99% of the time. My desire to read it came and went - which is why it took me so long to get through it. I think I did enjoy it, or at the very least I enjoyed not knowing; not being able to guess.
*thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review*

Not sure what my problem was with this one. Really liked the idea of it but just couldn’t get into it. And then a bunch of other library holds came in and I read those instead.
