It started pretty great, with a very old-fashioned tone resembling Burroughs or Howard, but then, about a third of the way through, the story kind of lost its way. The tone shifted, the story sputtered from event to event, and I struggled to find the desire to finish it. Maybe the author lost his passion for the characters and world. The other books of his I've read were much more fun.
