A super-villain, caught, and now hiding in witness protection, has his cover is blown and then is recruited to help catch bad guys. It should be easy, since he used to be one of them, but now he's been infected by empathy, and it's harder than he thought.

Zack Overkill, Zoe Zeppelin, Lazarus, and Simon Slaughter are just some of the characters inside this pulpy, noir, empathetic super-villain story from the super cool Mr. Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. What fun!

The most disturbing aspect of this comic book is how Brubaker writes female characters. In the beginning, Zack Overkill - an ex-super villain under witness protection is now working as filing clerk. At an office Christmas party he sees one of his female co-workers with another man who is wearing Santa's costume. Both are visibly drunk. The man goes to bathroom and ends up passing out on floor. Zack wears the costume and has sex with the co-worker. She thinks its the same guy under the costume but its actually not. After this Zack goes to rooftop and says that he feels alive. This is bordering on rape as the woman hasn't given her consent and Zack has deceived her into thinking he is someone else.

The worst part is, it never gets addressed and the event is unimportant for the character Zack's personal growth. Zack's thought process during this event is appalling.
In general, women in this comic book don't have much leg to stand on.
