An einigen Stellen übertrieben und schnulzig und Amalia völlig misslungen und trotzdem liebe ich dieses Werk, Motive wie die Frage nach dem Glauben und der Autorität, der Vatermord und der Sehnsucht nach Besserung und Tatendrang sind mir alle bekannt vorgekommen, denn sie alle werden auch in Die Brüder Karamasov behandelt, nach jetzigem Stand mein Lieblingswerk. Meine zwei liebsten Szenen sind einmal die, in welcher Karl das Lied des Brutus und des Cesars singt und noch einmal die, in welcher Franz in seinem Fieberwahn den Priester rufen lässt und an sich selbst zu Grunde geht.
