When this book was published, I couldn't read it because it sounded too depressing.  I'm glad I decided to try it now.  The subject matter was sad, but the book was hopeful and uplifting.  It's a beautiful tale of grief and how being surrounded by good people can make it bearable.

After surviving a plane crash that killed every other passenger, including his family, twelve year-old Edward Adler has to learn how to cope with losing everything and starting completely over.

This is a coming of age story, but with total devastation as the backdrop. It really tugs at the heartstrings. Not only do we get to witness the blossoming relationship of Edward and his neighbor, we also learn about the lives of the other passengers on the plane. What a whirlwind of emotions.

“And it was possible that they were all crying a little.” Me too, Edward. Me too.

Really wanted to love this one, but in my opinion, it was pretty boring.  I wasn’t able to connect with or understand the characters and since the book wasn’t at all plot driven, that made it difficult to get through.
