Love Richard Rohr, and resonate deeply with his teachings on the spirituality of imperfection and non-duality. If he'd been my priest while I was growing up, I might never have left the church.
That said, while this book, like all of his books, is rich with great ideas, inspiration and references (my god, the further-reading suggestions alone are reason to read RR), I found this one hard to track. I'm willing to consider that it's because I read it at the wrong time, not that it's a wrong book—it's me, not you. And this does not dull my appetite for RR's thinking. I may be one of those people who learns better through Rohr's conversations (his Rob Bell podcast episode is fantastic) and talks, where free-wheeling feels more at home to me. I do like an orderly writer!

Outstanding little book on seeing ChristIanity through a more mystical lens. Rohr talks about obliterating the ego (or false self) and as resurrection being the rising of our true self ( the non ego self that is part of the ground of all being and identified in "God"). 3.7 Martinie glasses
I have loved Rev. Rohr over a decade plus and attended two retreats in Cleveland he gave in his more active years. He's now phasing out of his beloved CAC at 78 or so and several bouts or illness. All this to say that I greatly admire him but had never read a book of his. Thus, I signed on to a Lenten book study of this book that had discussion and online readings/video. It was really illuminating and the book differentiated largely between our false Ego self and the True Self that we're actually born as and are as children. The later part of life is more devoted to the task of uncovering this true self, which seems our "spark of Divinity" that is always us. As we have no further need for our Ego work and adult self full of roles, we can and spiritually are benefited by becoming less identified with this False self and reducing the Ego to ego, in the more True self, that will live beyond, our soul. He draws on many people of the past and in his great communicative style pulls in great metaphors to make his point.
It's not an easy read, but with the course help, I was able to benefit greatly from this book, and I'd recommend it to those who like to explore growth in the spiritual realm. Rev. Rohr always draws from diverse people from saints, to Ken Wilbur to Jane Fonda:). He always is relatable, humble and I believe inspiringly progressive in his integrative views with a wide swath of humanity and tolerances.

As always, Rohr provides thought-provoking gems and a refreshing and renewing look at the value of our lives. Immortal Diamond didn't grab me as firmly as did Falling Upward but that may be because some of the content was material I'd read in Rohr's daily devotions.

Richard, my guy, it’s ok to admit that you’re a pantheist. Some of the coolest dudes ever are pantheists! Like Jake Sully
This is great--good, active, extremely thoughtful writing in which Rohr, a Fransiscan friar, explains his understanding and knowledge of God. He puts it all out there, sincerely apologizing for his viewpoint sometimes but yet unabashed about his possible offensiveness to some believers. A person could just read the appendices and be enlightened and soothed. He makes fearless sense of faith.

I am mesmerized
Fr. Rohr teaches me on every page in this book about who my True Self & my False Self. I’m overwhelmed with the depth of his teaching to arrive at me, my True Self in the Risen Christ!
