In 1995, 6 college stidents move into a campus party house, but one of them doesn't survive the school year. Twenty years later, the 5 surviving housemates find themselves lured together again under false pretenses to a remote bed and breakfast in Scotland. Who will make it out alive this time?
This had such a great premise and gave me all the "Clue" vibes, but something just never connected for me. I found I didn't care for any of the characters or care if they made it out alive. I also wasn't a fan of the way the timeline and perspectives jumped all around as it felt clunky and not fluid. It was interesting but not the knock out I hoped for.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read in exchange for my honest review.

The title itself should give you a clue that you won't like the characters - they all did bad things. But, were they bad enough to be killed for? The story jumps all over the place and is at first a little hard to keep up with, but that is part of what made it a really good mystery. If you love Agatha Christie type mysteries, ala And Then There Were None, and the game of Clue you will love seeing if you can follow all of the clues and figure out who did what and when. The ending was outstanding and I definitely didn't see it coming. Now I need to reread it to find all of the clues I missed!
Thank you NetGalley and Skyhorse Publishing/Arcade Crimewise for an advance reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
Six university students move in together for a house share at the start of the school year, but months later, one is found dead on the living room sofa following a party. The police rule the death accidental, but the five remaining housemates know what happened that night, and move on with their lives, keeping this secret.
Twenty years later, they are lured to Wolfheather House under various pretenses, for a weekend away at a secluded mansion. As they are cut off from the outside world and escape, they are murdered one-by-one and forced to confront their past and determine who has brought them together for revenge.
Liked:
- The plot had a Clue-meets-And Then There Were None-feel to it, but got a little nutty towards the end.
- I loved the setting of Wolfheather House and could imagine this crumbling old building tucked away on a Scottish isle.
- The story had a bit of a slow burn that I was fine with, but if you're looking for a quick page-turner, I don't think this will be for you.
Didn't Like:
- I had a VERY hard time keeping the female characters straight - this could just be my brain right now, but for some reason I struggled with who was who and who did what.
- The time jumps were frequent and sometimes jarring.
- The ending was a bit outlandish, but I am always willing to overlook this in the presence of amazing storytelling.
Three stars - liked, didn't love.

Absolutely a superior read. Very fast, I was completely engaged in trying to figure out who/what/when/where! Recommended by The Fantastic Stranglings book club I cannot recommend this to enough people. In Alfred Hitchock Who-Done-It style the characters are engaging, the writing is catchy, and it really makes you second guess yourself.
This book was very confusing and had no likable characters.
So, this was a book club book from the Fantastic Stranglings book club. I knew that because it was a special print and it said so inside the front cover. But I couldn't, for the life of me, remember getting this book, couldn't remember seeing the discussion, or the author interview. When I saw the month/year that it was picked and sent to us, well, hell, that explains it. June 2020. I was probably, more than likely, in full anxiety mode.
But I'm so glad this was the book I just happened to pick out of my stacks to read. It's a mystery/thriller about 6 uni students sharing a run down house in 1995. One of them ends up dead and the others know what happened but chose to keep secrets.
Twenty years later, they are all brought back together by a mysterious benefactor who wants to know the truth. I read this over 2 days and ended up spending about 4 hours of my day today just to finish it. It was confusing and twisty and oh-my-god-y. Every time I thought I knew where the author was taking us, nope, I was 100% wrong. The author apparently needed a spreadsheet to keep track of everything and kudos to her, this honestly was one of the more original stories that I've read in a while. There are hints of Agatha Christie but turned on her head.
I won't say much because spoilers. Things hit pretty fast in the beginning so strap in and enjoy the ride!

This story took me a while to get into as it goes back and forth between past and present through a diary. Five former college roommates had a sixth roommate that died. The five survivors are each told that they won a free remote getaway, but they quickly realize someone had ulterior motives for having them there. They find out they must tell the truth aboout what happened to the sixth roommate or die. This book definitely gave me Agatha Christie vibes, but it took me a long time to get into. The ending did make up for that.
What a read! I am beyond happen I chose to stick on reading this, it started off kinda slow for me.
This story centers around a group of college students who end up living in a place called the Caldwell House. During one of their many parties, something tragic happens to one the characters. He is found dead earlier morning after the party and none of the other roommates had an idea who or what happened. As the story continues you later find out one of them is keeping a secret, one of them killed him and someone has brought them back years later to get the truth.
The whole time I couldn’t figure out who the killer could of been. Then when you finally figure that out you get stuck into the next mystery of who brought them al back together years later. This is an absolutely fantastic read!!! Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for providing me this arc.
