boring. lost interest entirely.

Oof. This guy really likes using the word “timbre” incorrectly. So much unnecessary flowery language. Put down the thesaurus.

There were times that I kept saying to myself, "this is the most suspenseful book I have ever read...." This was terrific, fun, escapist, creepy, interesting, oddly "human", page-turning, and scary. Until Part IV, I would have given it 5 stars, except I became frustrated with the Jason Vorhees/Michael Meyers "no one is actually really dead/stays dead" - repetitively. Section 4, for me, was overkill. This would not prevent me from rushing to read the author's next work - I am looking forward to it. I did learn something about myself while reading this - it made me wonder why for some books I am willing to suspend disbelief, more than with others...... For this book, it was my pleasure to suspend my sense of disbelief and enjoy the roller-coaster ride - well, until Part IV.

There’s a lot going on in this story. The cover is deliciously creepy and even the title tells you something isn’t right.

Lovers of the book Winterset Hollow take a ferry to the island Addington Isle where the author lived and wrote the book. It is Barley Day, and they have no idea what they’re about to step into.
This is a tale of friendship, colonizer energy, revenge, and survival.

I also think there are themes on how humans have always taken advantage of the innocence of animals. Showing kindness, always. And what happens when you push someone too far.

I liked this story and many of the characters I’d read about in my childhood came to mind. Frog and Toad. Peter Rabbit and all of his friends. The Wind in the Willows. The Velveteen Rabbit. The French frog from The Swan Princess. The Bernstein Bears. I also thought of Watership Down. You could think of Winterset Hollow as a longer modern day Grimm fairytale with some bits of Hans Christian Andersen and Aesop’s Fables thrown in. But with a lot of violence.

Very well written. Very dark.

So beautifully written and intense! Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Definitely a book I’ll go back and reread

Excellent story! though I didn’t expect so much vividly written violence, I very much enjoyed the twist and turns of the story.
