Never can be bothered to review usually but this was possibly the worst thing I’ve ever read. None of the characters had any redeeming qualities, in fact they were all irredeemable in my opinion, and all they talked about was sex and breeding (SEE TRIGGER WARNINGS). Honestly had to force myself to finish this so many times it was frightful.

I’m going to be honest with you - this is not a good book. In fact at best the treatment of women in this is fucking disgusting. But am I going to read the next one? Hell yeah.

The writing is truly terrible. At least half of the paragraphs are simply restatements of the previous paragraph, as though the author wrote out the concept in different ways and for some reason never deleted the drafts. Every other word is “f*ck” as though the author thinks that makes up for a lack of creative dialogue. There are several times where the ridiculousness of what is written fully rips you out of the book. The is almost no plot for the first 90% of the book, and each scene is just another setting up for more sex. Definitely read the content warnings. None of the periphery or side characters develop a personality until the end of the book, when you kind of think you may eventually like one or two of them. I almost dnf’d several times, but other reviews insisted it was worth slogging through to the end.

Despite all of this, the last 10% of the book finally remembers that plot is a thing and sweeps you up into an actual story. I will read the second one, but with the lowest possible expectations.

This book is dark. But still manages to be compelling.

Draws on inspiration from various mythology but Hutchins makes it her own, the storyline mostly gets interesting in the second half of the book.

Enemies to lovers but actually enemies. Is this a bully romance? 😂

Uhhhhmmmm. I don’t even know what to say. This book was all over the place and was NOT what I expected. I should have paid more attention to the disclaimer/ warning at the start. This felt like fanfiction which, don't get me wrong, I love me some fanfiction but holy guacamole. Unnecessary constant cursing, thinly framed plot and world-building, Which was all just a thinly veiled platform for the two main characters and honestly everyone to want to copulate constantly. Everything in this story always came back to sex. How is that even possible? So many problematic interactions, language, and harm. Why isn’t this classed as fantasy erotica because it should be? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I’m usually not this harsh but wow the writing was bad.

That being said, I flew through it. It was a hate to love to HATE kinda book. Oh man, I’m still blushing. I wish it were stronger and had more plot because I do think there’s some potential here with the world and magic presented but again it was all a platform to uphold never-ending sex sequences.
