This was kind of like an Australian version of ‘Lanny’.

I like it, but not something you can skim through. I needed to pay close attention to every single word, otherwise I’d miss something and have to go back and re-read read parts.

Not my cup of tea, but I can't deny there were some wonderful passages and descriptions throughout the book, like "even in country like that, a whisper should not echo".

Not. Sure how I feel about this one? I had trouble keeping up, especially with the interlude stories, because you had to pay close attention due to the writing style.
The author did do a really good job of creating an eerie atmosphere and the stories were clever.

This story was so unique in its telling that I'm sure I'll come back to it again in the future. On the surface, it's an Australian gothic fairy tale, but deeper than that, it's a meditation on familial trauma and grief. This was a delight to read.

This short story was such a bizarre read. The miniature tales of each character and their own personal “monster tales” each blending in made this book so fun.

A chilling story steeped in fairytales and the Australian bush.
