It was an interesting dystopian view that left me with more questions than answers. I felt lost at times but soldiered through. Definitely for those who enjoy their dystopian a little more on the sad hopeless side.

Very reminiscent of Angela Carter’s anthology stories “The Company of Wolves” and “The Werewolf” (which I love) but with a central mystery plot thread whose ending I found somewhat unsatisfactory—perhaps it could have used a slightly longer page count.
The eventual allusion to the Mabinogion was intriguing, and overall this novella was a nice homage to folktales and oral storytelling. I’d like to do a closer reading one day

Very fun! It's an engaging mix of an overarching story with 'tall tales' that all end up relating together in ways you don't expect going in.

Jennings asks a lot of the reader to orient themselves in this story, but the feeling of uncertainty as to what’s going on is actually a key (and clearly intentional) part of the experience of this book. Because of that I think it would definitely benefit from multiple readings - as soon as I finished, I flipped back to the beginning to try to glean more meaning from it. This book is beautifully poetic and deeply unsettling, which ends up being a very worthwhile combination.
