A bone-chilling portrait of aging alone. Sometimes the most horrifying dystopias are true to life.

In an effort to read more fiction and more books by female authors (as per my reading goals for this year), I picked up Nine Island by Jane Alison at the library. It came highly recommended by the librarians and as I trust my local librarians I was excited for the read. I am disappointed to report that I was not enthralled by the story whatsoever. There were some pieces of good writing in Nine Island that held my interest, but aside from those small moments and the translations of Ovid's sexual transformation stories...I felt that this book was nothing more than angst above love and sex.
