This was an intriguing book. At its heart it's a love story, but it seemed to jump genres from crime drama to post-apocalyptic to supernatural thriller. For someone who can generally see a few moves ahead in the plot line, this one took me by surprise and kept me guessing. It also made me stop and think, and gave me a new perspective with which to look around at the seemingly mundane details that make up "life".
I was drawn to this after hearing that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer were making a film adapation. An interesting love story that features a love that transcends life itself. Decent enough, but frankly, I found the evil and in the afterlife and the grayness a bit depressing.
Full disclosure: I received a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway.

It also raises intriguing moral and philosophical questions about life, love, and death. The story is told in a fast-paced 300 pages that contain epic sci-fi action. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more of Sakey's work.

This was described as Ghost meets The Matrix, and I would agree with that. FBI Agent Will Brody is hunting down a sniper who is terrorizing the city of Chicago. With 18 kills under his belt and no solid leads, Brody and his supervisor [and secret girlfriend] Claire McCoy are getting desperate. Following a lead, Will ends up in a church that blows up. He wakes up without a scratch to a deserted street. Meanwhile, Claire is standing over his dead body.
What follows is a life after this life, where Claire and Will desperately seek each other--and the sniper--again and again. This was an easy read, as well as enjoyable. A little bit of a love story, some science-fiction, some religion, some crime, and it all meshed together well.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. At first, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it, as it starts in one direction (not part of the blurb) and I was like "huh?" but then it goes into the heart of the story and it gets good. Then, the beginning starts to come around and it all gets brought together and it was very good and interesting.
I definitely liked Brody, Claire and their connection. It was an interesting concept and done really well as well. The afterlife is a neat place, not what I was expecting for the most part. It was an intriguing setting, one that you think about for quite a while.
Definitely recommended for Fantasy fans, fans of Sakey and people who like things not so cookie cutter as a lot of books out there. This one stands out and is memorable.

Loved it, wish it was a series
I'm sad it ended. I really enjoyed this book. Loved the characters and plot. But wowwee I had to see definitions for quite a few words. I like that though. I fell in love with the plot more than the characters I think. But still cared about them. This is the first book I've read by this author, and it sure won't be the last. I'm seeing this is going to the big screen? Man, I can't wait to see it!
