Loved: that the FMC had a strong personality and a chronic illness. I found that really interesting about her.

Didn’t love: anything else I’m SORRY like I didn’t understand why the couple even liked each other? Other than finding the other hot? The way they talked to each other was so unrealistic and awkward? The tension felt so manufactured? Nothing about this made sense to me I’m sorry

I think this book had a lot of potential, but most of the characters were just horrible people. Darcy has to be one of the most selfish and cruel characters I have ever read. And her brother Jamie was honestly borderline abusive imo. Tom should have run as far as he needed to get away from these two.

DID NOT FINISH: 38%

I don't know, this one just isn't hitting as it should for me.

A heartfelt, funny romance that is by turns hilarious and awkward as hell, I honestly might like 99 PERCENT MINE more than THE HATING GAME. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for good old friends to lovers romance, but I loved the years of history between Darcy and Tom, and the way in which that history made it both easier and harder for them to see each other--or each other's feelings--clearly. Throw in a healthy helping of personal insecurities, a dysfunctional but loving sibling relationship, an adorable Chihuahua, nipple piercing antics, and a fictional underwear brand that I desperately wish was real, and you're at least 85% of the way to my perfect romance. Can't wait for Sally Thorne's next one.

the female protagonist/narrator was so insufferable that i couldn’t root for her for a second. she had a severe case of Main Character Syndrome while also being a terrible person. she didn’t redeem herself once yet still got the guy in the end…? the PERFECT guy who fully deserved better than a self-described princess who thinks everyone’s in love with her. and why she were the last two chapters so much longer than all the other ones? did the author accidentally publish a rough draft?

Not as good as the hating game, a little too abstract for me at times, but enjoyable enough.
medium-paced

This felt like it needed one more draft. The plot was oddly structured and paved, the characters were one note, there were secondary characters introduced and then left dangling, the romance lacked any nuance... just a big mess.

My first Sally Thorne book and not impressed but I’m still going to try the hating game. I just didn’t like the female lead character.
