It saddens me to only give this book two stars. I considered three because the book truly gets better afterwards the two mains fuck, but I spent so long loathing them both that I can’t justify it. This book would’ve been so much better with more fleshing out. As it is, though, I’ve got to stick with my rating.

I have been putting off reading this book and after reading it I wish I had just skipped it. There was no romance. I’m all for chemistry, but Darcy didn’t give me any reason to believe she actually cares for Tom beyond a strictly physical connection. Also I hate seeing people viewed as “possessions” so that was a turn off for me from the start. For someone so obsessed with freedom, Darcy sure is possessive to an unhealthy degree.

The epilogue of The Hating Game was a nice touch, but the tone felt so off. It didn’t feel like the same Sally Thorne wrote both of these books.

What even WAS this book?

I LOVED this book. Could not put it down, could not get enough. Would highly recommend as a super fun summery read.

"Get in me" is definitely how I would describe my need to read while reading this book - I wanted every single page swirling inside my brain as fast as possible - which did mean that it had to end too soon, but what a way to end.

I am usually not one for lovey-dovey stuff in books, in fact I skim or skip sections where any secondhand awkwardness might occur (see Outlander and me having to skip quite a few pages hah) but this one I couldn't get enough.
Thorne wrote two amazing characters who were so easy to fall in love with (no matter your preference) - they were strong, witty and wonderful and I fell hard. I laughed out loud and thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this book as she created a world that was so easy to slip into and forget about anything else.
I will also say that her secondary characters really helped in the way of creating this wonderful world and made for a really interesting story filled with depth on some many levels. They added life to what would have been otherwise an intense look at a love story and without them it would not have been the same.

I adored her cadence and pacing - slow burn is my jam and Whewwweee was this slow but not too slow - I wasn't sure off the top if I would like the way in which she wrote but once you get into it, the rhythm is to die for and you just slip right off the edge of the cliff and into her story.

11/10 would recommend. I can't wait to get my hands on the Hating Game.

Oh and ps - the epilogue was everything and then some -- so I can't wait to read the Hating Game and then read that epilogue.

Okay, now that I'm back home from vacation, I can sit down and write out a more in-depth review. First, let me say that no one is more disappointed that I didn't love this one than I am. I absolutely *adored* The Hating Game, and was so eager to get my hands on 99 Percent Mine. I was hoping to find that combination of romance, humor, and likable characters that I found in The Hating Game, but unfortunately, I just didn't find that magic combination in 99 Percent Mine.

I have to imagine that it's a difficult situation when an authors first novel does so well, and ends up being well loved, because when it's time to write their sophomore novel, there's some added pressure. That all aside, my problem with this book was twofold. First was the main character. I absolutely couldn't stand her. She was written to be gritty, and messy, and I get that - but to me, she had no redeeming qualities. For an adult, I felt like she handled her emotions the way a high schooler would - essentially acknowledging them internally, but pushing people away and masking them through jokes outwardly. I'm sure there are plenty of adults that do that, but none that I know - the people I'm around are more self-aware. Part of what bothered me about that was how creepily jealous she got over a man she'd never expressed her feelings to - someone who was her childhood friend that she's always joked with, and who has always seen her with a revolving door of men in her life...it just rubbed me the wrong way to watch her get sort of animalistic over the fact that he was engaged to someone else...was he supposed to read her mind, know she liked him, AND wait around for her to get her shit together?? I think not.

The second thing I struggled with was the pacing. Essentially nothing happened between our two leads until the last quarter of the book, but it didn't quite translate as a "slow burn" for me. Instead, it unfortunately made me want to skim through the middle of the book to get to the good part (I didn't, but you know what I mean).

All in all, this one just didn't work for me. If you're looking for a repeat of The Hating Game, you won't find it here. I've seen lots of mixed reviews about this book, so if you're on the fence, don't let my review be your only deciding factor. You might like the gristly main character and the slow moving plot more than I did. All of that said, this won't deter me from reading future books by Sally Thorne - I think she's a talented author, and I'm eager to see what she does next.

Lastly, I'd like to thank William Morrow for an advanced copy of the book. It was my pleasure to provide an honest review.

Loved! Not quite as much as her debut, but enough for me to tell everyone about this book! The characters are all so beautifully flawed and lovable sucking you in from the very first page.

Stupid writing and plot
emotional funny lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: N/A
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

This is the perfect palette cleanser, such an easy read. Funny romance, a bit embarrassing sometimes, but extremely cute!!

While I didn't enjoy this book as much as The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, this book as still a fun read!

Cute read. I didn’t love it quite as much as The Hating Game, but still enjoyed it! Loved the ending. I just felt like there was tooooo much tension leading up to it for too long into the book. Otherwise, really easy, cute read!
