Read the last half of the book in one sitting. It really picks up once it goes to Michael’s POV. Push through if you need to! The end is some great writing. Looking forward to more from the author.

Two Step Devil takes place in Alabama, where a man who considers himself the Prophet is painting his visions of gods messages. One day, he sees a car pull up to the dump where he is foraging for supplies and in the backseat is a girl names Michael with zip ties on her wrist and the Prophet is convinced this is a message from God and he must save her.
For me, this story kept evolving. It started with the Prophets former life and how he sort of ended up on the fringe of society, painting his visions and it sort of explains how he felt so compelled to save Michael. Michael also had tragic circumstances and these two form an unlikely pair that you keep expecting to get more dark and sordid. The narrator did a great job in keeping you focused in the mindset of Prophet and the last third or so of the book should definitely be read in one go.

Was expecting something wholesome, got a much darker story than I should have been reading at 1 am...
I'm giving it a higher rating than how it made me feel because it is objectively well written and opens up a lot of discussions into relevant issues. Would be good to study in a class or in a book club.
