This is a book I've had on my shelf for ages, and although I generally don't enjoy space stories as much as fantasy, this is a classic I've always wanted to read.
The characters were interesting enough, as was the premise. But I had real issue with the way that HAL just went bonkers and then was so quickly sidelined. It made the rest of the story feel odd and out of place. And that ending? Not sure what most of that was about, but wasn't enticing enough for me to continue.
