4.5 Stars! Definitely a story for the ages. Extremely well written. I would say 5 star book but the ending just didn’t do it for me. But it was definitely an amazing journey through space! Looking forward to checking out the movie. Enjoy!
I think its a vital companion piece to the film. Great story, very readable, but not really gripping if the story wasn't made into a movie and the book was a standalone.
This was one of the last books written before we sent men to the moon. It was a fascinating look at the pre-space age science fiction, especially since it was on the cusp of humans new age of space exploration. The story contains several inaccuracies of science that make it more interesting since I believe they used as modern information as they could to write this book.
Also interested to note: Arthur C. Clark wrote the book in parallel with Stanley Kubrick. Writing the book for the screen play and using the screenplay to inform the writing of the book.

An extremely interesting read, especially if you are a fan of the movie. Clarke’s writing is clean and direct, and yet there’s an element of poetry to it — much like Kubrik’s film. (One of the more interesting things about this book is that it was written alongside the making of the film.) The ending in the novel is far more interesting and compelling than the ending of the film, but I suspect this is due to the limitation of the latter medium at the time the film was made. Highly recommend.
