First book in the trilogy. Whilst it did take a few chapters to get into the plot (there was a debate to DNF before chapter 5). The book did redeem itself however, the plot is too similar to others such as the hunger games but as a weaker cousin.

This was the better of the three books as the plot between Pae and Kai continues throughout - will they or won’t they?

I did not think the writing was very good. I wouldn't be able to take a shot every time the author used 'sticky' in the first chapter because I'd be too drunk to keep reading. Honestly, nearly made me DNF immediately. I also found the MMC insufferable for a decent portion of the book and I quite frankly I did not care about him. One positive thing I would like to say though, is, the chapters were short and the ending was entertaining.

I thought that the characters were mostly written quite well (
Paedyn’s ability to read people was way too unrealistic in my opinion
), however the writing was a little bit repetitive at times and certain moments (
like when Jax nearly died
) were completely unnecessary. I also thought that a lot was taken from other books, for example, The Hunger Games. Other than that though, it was quite good.

I haven't brought the rest of the series yet, and I wasn't planning to as I'm trying (and failing) to not buy new books. However, after the last chapter I might have to look at buying the next one. My brain doesn't like loose ends.

Overall, the book was okay, it wasn't painful to read but at the same time I didn't really feel myself connecting to the characters and story line. It was okay, but not life changing.
