Loved this book. Lots going on. Can't wait to watch the TV show!

The writing was beautiful, the characters felt real and the storyline was great, kept me captivated and I couldn’t wait to figure out what was unfolding but at the same time it was drawn out and long winded and just some of it felt unnecessary.

Great book. I loved the way the narrative shifts between each of the characters. Explores lots of themes like loss, identity, motherhood. Noice.

This book was wonderfully written. It was a well told story that, while being rather predictable, still had some elements of surprise.

Nearing the last chapter I was wondering how it would wrap up. Wondering what beautiful words would end this story. And I got to the last line, “She would spend months, years, the rest of her life looking for her daughter, searching the face of every young woman she met for as long as it took, searching for a spark of familiarity in the faces of strangers.”

Really? Really? That’s how the book ends? It’s not a bad line, but I don’t like the way it ends the book. I was expecting something more, and I guess maybe I shouldn’t have been expecting anything. I guess I just wanted it to be wrapped up a little more. Maybe to actually get some solid last interactions between the characters. I don’t know. It doesn’t keep me from rating it five stars- it was a wonderful book, but that last line doesn’t feel like the right ending.

In terms of the pace, I can say this is a medium pace but some people might be a bit bored with the details on each character almost until half of the book. But, it quite makes sense cause the story kinda focuses on family dynamics - how each family has their own stories, secrets, and circumstances.

When it comes to the idea of "ideal family" or "perfect family", everybody has their own  opinion. Some might work really hard to reach that "ideal" or "perfect" picture and some might build their family as they go without any type of structure or goals; but each of them has their own good & bad sides for sure.

Even after I finish this book, somehow it doesn't make me lean more into one type of family compared to the other because at the end of the day each family will have their own struggles.

Every bit as good as the hype.
