I really enjoyed this one! I usually go into contemporary romances expecting light hearted cuteness, and this surprised me with how in depth it went with serious issues. I LOVED it! I loved the banter Nandy and Trice had. I loved the character growth both characters had. I loved that Grandison wrote about issues like how a lot of times boys aren’t taught emotions so they act out in inappropriate ways as they get older. I loved how Grandison wrote about how to find beauty no matter where you are, in a uppity community that seems superficial or in a neighborhood that is extremely rough. I think she did great on touching on those issues (and others like judgement, race, feminism) to get young readers attentions!

There were some good topics in here, but I just didn't really like the execution. I'm glad that I've listened to this book otherwise it would've been very hard for me to get through. Furthermore, I strongly disliked Nandy's behavior and my opinion of her sadly enough didn't change throughout the story. The chapters told from Tryson's POV were way more likeable, but overall I didn't really enjoy listening to this book.

This was an exceptionally enjoyable read for me.
I really liked the characters. Trice was so perfectly developed and brought to the page. Nandy seemed to be set as an opposite to Trice, and I really liked their interactions. A lot in this book was well executed. I really enjoyed the dynamics between the characters, as well as the writing. The plot was okay, but the connection I felt to the characters allowed me to keep reading.
I have to note though that the pacing didn’t work for me, it felt a bit inconsistent. However, I liked the story, and I really wanted to see how it would turn out in the end.

I really struggled with whether to even finish this book when I was 1/3 done, 1/2 done, and even beyond that. It is such a cliche through and through, and I could tell you from beginning to end exactly how this plot would go.

Nandy and Trice are childhood friends, and after he goes through some major hard times in his "wrong side of the tracks" part of town, Nandy's parents move him into their palatial home in an upscale suburb. The transition is tough: Nandy has a fancy-pants boyfriend (his name is even Chad Bradley...) and a slew of rich friends. Trice is reliving the trauma he experienced at home and doesn't like or fit into this new world. They clash, but sparks are there. The author wants us to wonder if it's enough to ignite into a romance, despite their major differences and backgrounds. Verdict: it is, but who cares? It's trite, it's a total Romeo & Juliet trope with every urban cliche thrown into the mix. And whoever chose the audio narrators should be fired, because these two sound absurdly flippant during the entire reading.

I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews instead of going with my gut on this one. The story stalls out just a bit of the way in and just isn't worth it.
