Another great book by Ana in her new Dads of Stillwater series. Both MCs were introduced previously, and we see a few familiar faces from Chester Falls as well. This can be a standalone, but I definitely recommend reading all of Ana's books. As usual, her writing hooks you in from the start. The people of Stillwater make you wish this was an actual place you can go visit. Even though this series is a spinoff of Chester Falls, it definitely is not the same stories. Ana does an amazing job of creating this new town, new characters, and new stories. I'm already so excited for the next book!

Such a great start.

This is an offshoot of the Chester Falls series, in a town not far away, Stillwater. This was a great start to the series. So many feels, a little angst to keep things interesting, and a wonderful HEA with a perfect amount of steam.

Was overly invested in the characters and their romance/side plots & drama.

But am not going to give up on this series. There is potential...

Title - Antagonist (Dads Of Stillwater #1)

Author - Ana Ashley

Genre - MM Romance

Published - May 2022

Pages - 342 Pages

Rating - 3*

Fletcher and Harrison meet at a charity auction, Fletcher bids on Harrison and wins their first meeting does not go well and ends with Harrison storming out angrily. Harrison leaves the big city and moves to small-town Stillwater to be closer to his ex-wife and daughter. Turns out Stillwater is where Fletcher lives and they meet again at Harrison's daughter's school. These two single dads butt heads, they don't plan to fall for each other but some things are inevitable.

The single dad trope is one of my favourite tropes, I thought this book fell a little short. I found the characters to be a little annoying. I had a hard time getting into this book. This book has little angst, is funny in places, it's well written. I will give the next book in the series a read and I look forward to seeing what else this author has on offer.

I have chosen to give this book three stars.

Fletcher & Harrison - first meeting has sparks but doesn't go so well but then small towns - they keep meeting again, getting thrown together. The relationship grows as you would imagine, more sparks, antagonising each other ( perfect title)

the kids and the side characters make this book even better.

A great start to a new spin off from Chester Falls by Ana.

This is the first is a spin off series from the Chester Falls books and what a great start it is. Fletcher and Harrison have made appearances in CF previously and now we get their story told.
After a less than ideal initial first contact, Fletcher and Harrison do have a few hiccups to overcome before they get an HEA. The sizzling chemistry between them leads to lots of heated, steamy times even when those pesky hiccups keep popping up!

I love small town romances and Stillwater is no exception. There’s not only the two very likeable main characters but some very interesting and sometimes quirky townsfolk and two very adorable kids to keep things entertaining. I found this to be engaging from start to finish and a very easy and enjoyable read with just a dash of angst perfectly balanced by lighter moments.

I don't know where I started falling down the rabbit hole of these stories, but I've enjoyed every one. I started with Newcomer and you see an idea of Fletcher and Harrison in that, so seeing both that scene and the rest of their story was great!

“Harrison is like one of those Saturday newspaper puzzles that always make me feel stupid when I try to figure them out. Except there aren’t any clues for the Harrison puzzle.” This statement by Fletcher summarises well the complex relationship between the two MCs of this book. Harrison might be a puzzle but Fletcher is a “like a devil dressed as an angel”. And these contradictions are what makes this story so engaging.

One of the many nice aspects of the storyline is that Fletcher and Harrison live in a world where coming out as bi to longtime friends and former partners is accepted without much fuss or surprise.

My only critique is that I would have loved to read more details about the reasons why both their previous relationships with the mothers of their children failed, especially the reasons behind the end of Stella’s and Harrison’s love are vague.

I received a complementary copy of the book from the author and I am happy to recommend this first instalment of this new series. Looking forward to the next couple of single dads in Stillwater!
