Ok so this book is a hard one for me to rate. On one hand, I did enjoy some aspects of the story. On the other hand, where in the world did this book get edited? The structuring was absolutely horrific. The pacing? There is none. Almost 200 pages spent on their childhood where nothing happened. I know there has to be some backstory in fantasy novels, but 200 pages? Come on! That was beyond unnecessary. Maybe 100 pages max. The world building where it should have been detailed was lacking completely. I couldn't visualize where the characters were. Now on to the positives. I did absolutely love both characters. Nox and Amaris are so different and yet they fit. Both have powers they don't understand and get blind sided by. Then they both learn from.two very different upbringing how to use them. I wish with all my heart that there was more depth to them. While I love them, they tended to be more on the shallow side. I feel that their descriptions weren't fully there either. The side characters helped so much to propel the story. I did love learning some of the history of the Reevers and of Nox's history. Or what she is. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to finish the series as the writing and structuring are not my cup of tea.

3.5 stars rounded up. really enjoyed the story but the author wrote this book very fast and the editor did a poor job, so if you’re willing to look past errors and repetition of words it is a good read!
