Ok, I have a lot of feelings about this one. Firstly, good LORD, did Chevy Stevens say “never trust a man” with this one. Secondly, I couldn’t not stand Sophie, but that’s okay because I also didn’t really like the audiobook narrator for her, either. I just struggled to empathize with someone who, while a teenager, should have known better throughout the whole book. Also Jared sounds icky.

But besides Sophie being an annoying dumbass, I loved this book. Stevens does a great job of displaying a different kind of concerning relationship in each act - I liked how each situation had different warning signs that readers should look out for in their own lives. I also liked how, while Linda never forgave Andrew for being abusive, she accepted that she had loved him at one point and their relationship would always be complicated because of that.

My first read from this author but not my last! I really enjoyed this one!
Lindsey meets a great guy, they fall in love and get married. It should be a great love story with a happy ending. The problem is her hubby, Andrew, becomes more controlling and jealous. He starts drinking more and often becomes physical. Lindsey needs to leave before he kills her but if she leaves he will kill her.
Well written and good characters. Highly recommended.

I love this author, I’ve read a few of her others and I adored them. This one majorly missed the mark for me but it has nothing to do with the writing. She’s a great writer and the story sucked me in from page one, the problem was the content.

First of all it was very predictable. Within the first 50 pages I predicted that it wasn’t her abusive ex husband coming back to stalk her and it instead was her good friend Marcus. Not a shocker… but honestly a corny predictable twist wouldn’t make me rate it 2 stars.

My main issue was the fact that she turns the abusive ex husband who not only verbally and physically abused her for years but tried to kill her into essentially a “good guy”. She doesn’t necessarily make him a hero but the end of the book is pretty much deciding that he wasn’t an ‘evil’ guy, he just was misunderstood!!!

That is why I hated this book. If you’re going to try and white knight the abusive ex why did you make him SO terribly abusive. I’m supposed to forgive a guy who was physically and emotionally abusive, abused an animal, killed a woman in a car accident, tried to kill his wife, and many other things, just because he ‘changed’. I’m sorry but I just hated that.

I loved absolutely every single page of this book!! I have now read it twice and it is still one of my favorites!!!
