The Limit is a fast-paced techno-thriller for middle-grade readers set in the not-so-distant future. Read my full review:

This one will likely keep my kids reading but I couldn't look past the many silly plot holes. It was fine.
I really would have given this a 2.5. It was nearly excruciating to finish. The basic premise was really intriguing, and when the author stayed on plot it was decent. However I felt she spent to much time on trivial stuff and didn't explore the full potential of the plot/concept. I was disappointed and it took several weeks to get through which for me is forever!
This was a fast read and a very interesting premise (the government patrols everyone's credit limit and if you go over your limit, they send your kids to workhouses to work off your debt) and I was captivated until the end when it seemed to wrap up a little too quickly and neatly and suddenly reminded me more of a Disney movie than a sci-fi novel. That being said, it's perfectly suited toward the grade-school crowd and a nice introduction to the futuristic novel genre for that age group.
Another book with an amazing idea.... with a story that never really grabs the reader's attention. The concept - you are given X-amount of money to spend. Go over that limit and your family can be taken away to work away the debt. Awesome concept. The story itself... Terrible. I was thinking it would be like Neil Shusterman's Unwind with a cool twist and crazy feel.... nope. Did not like it at all. But maybe my students will get into this fall.
3 1/2 stars. Look for my review October 21 on ldswbr.blogspot.com
Beginning was a bit lame and slow, but once into it the pace was good with interesting characters.
Book Talk: Matt didn't expect it to happen to him. His parents always seemed to have plenty of money. But at the store, his mom went over the limit. They were out of money. The government let most families in this situation go on supervised spending, but not the Dunston family. Matt is off to the workhouse to help rehabilitate his family finances and get them out of debt and under the limit. Matt is working hard until his younger sister appears at the workhouse and Matt realizes his work isn't helping his family one bit.
