Spoon benders was ok. I felt kind of engaged throughout, but never really felt that excitement to read more. The conclusion came together in an interesting way, but it didn't feel as dramatic or like as much of a climax as I think it could have. Instead, it felt a little bit forced. I guess I felt like there were a lot of strong elements to this book, but never of them really jumped off the page or fulfilled their potential. Promises, but no ultimate follow-through. Still, it's not a bad book, just not great or extraordinary. I would read the author again, but would come in with somewhat lower expectations.

What a surprisingly good read.....wasn’t expecting this. A psychic family with one exception, the con artist father. Lots of twists and turns involving the mob, the CIA and oh yeah, family.

Did not finish this book. I tried to read it last year, but stopped because it was really slow. I loved that we were introduced to each family member, but I felt like I kept waiting for something big to happen.

Now, reading in the second time, maybe got a chapter or two ahead from last time, and STILL nothing. So I am officially giving up on finishing the book, super disappointed.

I listened to the audio book which started off sort of slow, in my opinion. Once the characters are fully fleshed out, the story is very intriguing and complex, and I was actually laughing out loud. The story kept me guessing right up to the end.

it was very boring and i did NOT enjoy the fact that he was
jerking off to his cousin??

4.5 stars to Spoonbenders by Daryl Gregory. This is my first read of Gregory, and I have to say I will be seeking out the rest of his work. Spoonbenders is a big-hearted, deep dive into three generations of a family of psychics of various skills and aptitudes. Much like life, Spoonbenders is at turns heart-wrenching and hilarious. We follow the story of the Telemachus family through their present time of 1995. The story is told through alternating viewpoints of 5 family members, one viewpoint per chapter, and each chapter alternates between the present timeline and flashbacks. This works to steadily develop the characters and fill in backstory that crescendos in their present timeline with a very satisfying ending. Loved every minute reading this one and this turned me into a big fan of Daryl Gregory's writing.

Finished Feb. 8th, rounded up from 3.5 stars.

Interesting character development and familial interactions.
