I was very excited to see a new Daryl Gregory books, have loved his previous ones, especially Afterparty. This book was more fun and less menacing that his previous books. In the hands of a less talented writer the premise would be ridiculous, but he took me with him all the way. I loved every minute of this. Interesting characters, a quirky fun plot and so well written. I don't often give 5 star reviews, this book deserves it.

I loved every character so much!
The story is nothing like I have read before, and it is presented quite well.
However, at times I did find myself really confused whenever there was a time jump -especially the flashbacks-. Overall, I had a lot of fun reading this books, so I decided to read more from the author!

Teddy is like a preview of what my husband will be like when he's older. It warmed my heart.
A low-income family with superpowers gets mixed up with the mob. I found the plot predictable, but this was a fun take on the genre. Most of the culture references felt targeted to boomer-generation American readers, so it felt accidentally retro. But it has nice charm and characterization.

I think when you arrive at the end of a book and want more of their story, it must have been a good read. I’m totally okay if Daryl writes a second novel for this cast of characters! The references to the 90’s were a spectacular component as well.
This took me a while to get into, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. There's a bit of character jumping going on, which I typically don't enjoy, but didn't mind so much here. It went with the theme of the book, honestly.
I'd recommend reading this if you're looking for something to read that is unique.
Also, takes place in Chicago, which I love.

I think this could have been a 5 star book for me, but I lost interest for a while and was a little confused when I came back to it. The audiobook was sometimes hard to follow with all of the POV and time jump switch. Overall it was a really interesting concept, and I’m glad that I finally got around to finishing it.
Amiable thriller about a psychic family. Hala Kahiki appears, for any Chicagoans reading this review. Not deep or scary, but full of life, even if it’s pretty on-the-nose stuff. Solid summer read.
