Fantastic book. Ingenious.

I honestly was a little disappointed and a little confused with several things throughout this book, and could definitely tell that it is an adult fiction book rather than teen fiction. It took me probably about half the book to fully determine whether or not any of the characters truly had powers, or if it was just a hoax. The constant flashbacks and switching of points of view, surprisingly was not actually that confusing. The parts were well written so I was able to understand what was going on in each scene, and keep each different character straight. Near the middle, the book began to get a little slow though, so I started to skim pages, and probably missed little parts of the story. I was definitely able to get the overall gist of it, but at some parts I was a little unclear on what role the supporting characters played, or how they became involved. This book was a little slow moving, but for older readers and magic/fantasy fans (although the book didn't focus on their powers as much as I might've liked), this book's plot is interesting and unique.

I loved it. The characters were flawed and quirky. The story was fun. Also the fact it was set in the nineties and had those references was gravy. I had a hard time putting it down.
3.5. What a strange, interesting story. I found it to be a little uneven (and the beginning was a little slow), but I liked the "Royal Tenenbaums" feel to the book. Ultimately it's about family and what we do to protect the ones we love (plus so much more).
A last-minute choice ends up being one of my favorite reads of the year!
This book has just the right amount of suspense, mystery, and fantasy to make you want to turn the pages (or, in my case, sit in the car) until you find out how it ends.
Wonderfully written, with a nice pace that isn't too fast or too slow!

This is a fun novel - a story about a family with extraordinary psychic powers. It is imaginative, fun, and fully of interesting characters, a madcap family that gets caught in all sorts of amusing scrapes.
It's different.
The narration shifts from one character to another (not to mention through time), and it feels disjointed at times. I would be invested in Story A when suddenly we're talking about Story B from Character C and all I can think is, I want A back!
The writing itself is interesting. It's not purple prose-ish, but describes just enough. It's not fast pace - for me at least - but it's moving. Where? I don't know. There's humour sprinkled in between chapters but not enough to justify a laugh out loud moment.
The thread seems random until you slowly discover that hey, things do add up.
It's got potential so I would definitely watch it as a TV show

This book got me hooked on Daryl Gregory! Spoonbenders was a fun and fast-paced story, part supernatural adventure, part coming-of-age story, part family drama. Gregory has a way of writing that makes the characters feel so real and so likable (for the most part). Loved this one!
what a read! got this book for free and thought i wasnt going to like it at all. thankfully its the only time i dont get insanely butthurt about being wrong.
very funny, fluid prose too -- i love the way DG writes convos in particular. there is nothing stiff awkward or clunky about his writing style in the least. wow
