A truly superb tale of magic, this book will be a classic to be ranked with Inkheart and Howl's Moving Castle. This story will appeal not only to children, but to the adults reading it to them. I cannot wait for the sequel!

I totally got sucked into this one based upon the cover; I mean how can you not it’s just delightful! But I really need to stop picking up books based on how pretty their covers are

Let me begin by saying – how stunning is this cover! This book is described on the reverse as funny, dark and blazingly beautiful which I have to agree. Darker themes are normally outside my comfort zone, but this middle-grade book had just that edge to capture my imagination.
We follow Fionn Boyle as he sets foot on Arranmore Island, the magical journey he endures and rekindling family connections. This is one of the most unforgettable reads for me this year and there is actually now a sequel which I hope to read at some point.

I absolutely LOVE reading middle-grade and children’s books!
I often find that they’re more magical, go deeper, they have far more to say for themselves and they say it in a bigger variation of ways!
If you stopped reading these books as you got older then I’m here to tell you that you’re missing out in a big way!

If you wanted to start reading books aimed at younger readers then you could do a lot worse than ‘The Storm Keepers Island’.
This is such a charming, magical, cosy, and enchanting book.
I loved every single page!

In this tale we take a trip to a magical island where everything is just a bit... strange.
Things seem to shift and move, flowers pop up out of nowhere, the wind seems to call out to you, and secrets and mysteries are hidden around every corner!
Is there really a cave that grants wishes? Can the weather truly be trapped inside a candle? Are there monstrous creatures living under the waves who protect the island? And can Fionn’s grandfather really control the elements?
Just open these glorious pages and find out for yourselves!

Catherine really makes you care about all the characters in this tale.
Their personalities are all so varied and fleshed out, their relationships a delight to read about! From the sibling animosity between Fionn and Tara, the love and family bond between Fionn and his eccentric grandfather, and the rivalry between Fionn and his sworn-Island-enemy Bartley!
It was all fantastic!

The island itself even feels like its own character! It was so vibrant and alive!
I desperately want to visit its shores myself now and have an adventure all of my own!
And I can’t wait for the story to carry on so that I can jump back into this enchanting world!

So next time there a storm brewing or the wind is howling at the windows, I suggest curling up with a steaming cup of tea and opening the pages of this fantastic book!

This was absolutely incredible! Full to bursting with magic and adventure- I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2! The world-building, the characters, the writing style, the pacing, the plot- it was all amazing and so well executed. I was completely sucked into the story and flew through the pages because I just had to know what was going to happen! This may be a middle grade book, but I would recommend to any one, regardless of the books you generally read.

The main character is young Fionn, who is sent along with his sister Tara to the island of Arranmore to live with their grandfather. This is Fionn's first time on the island and he is completely unaware of his history and secrets. He soon discovers that the island is full of magic and that his grandfather is the current storm keeper. The storm keeper has the ability to wield (and enclose in candles) the island's magic, and it is their job to protect the island from enemies. Once a generation, the island selects a new storm keeper and Fionn realizes that his grandfather's strength and memory are fading fast. Fionn also has to contend with Bartley Beasley who is actively seeking out the sea cave, so he can have it's one wish (every generation is granted one wish by the island) and become the next storm keeper and bring the Beasley family name back into the spotlight. The book includes mythology, folktale, and family feuds.
This is a beautifully written novel about believing in yourself. Fionn has always questioned his bravery and is forced to believe in himself and his abilities throughout the novel. The voice is fresh and engaging and the story is captivating. This book has adventure, music, and humor which is the perfect combination for a middle grade novel.
