An amazing continuation of the series! Definitely went in a different direction than I expected it to. Looking forward to see how things culminate in the next book!

As well as the multiple-POVs, Johansen now weaves in split-world flashbacks which, similar to the first book, slowly unpeel the layers of her story. I will admit skepticism while I was reading as to it all seamlessly coming together, but it is masterfully done and the payoff is great.
One other thing I want to mention as the epigraphs that start each chapter and essentially, being quotes from the distant future, spoil the entire story before you read it. But, in fact, it never matters because the story is told so well that even knowing the eventual outcome, the suspense still builds and the narrative drive compels the reader along.
Also, Johansen seems to be a huge fan of ending these books with epic mic-drop cliff-hangers. Here's hoping the final book actually wraps things up somewhat. :-D

Very different from the first (and containing more explicit violence), but interesting. I look forward to the third installment.
