I really enjoyed this, it made me feel less lonely in the world. I don't think we would be the best of friends if I met her but I admire her fiercely and she made me laugh at times.
I skimmed through her food diary section but I don't mind that she included it because this is her memoir and she felt it was important to her.

I REALLY did not think I'd like this book; I've only watched part of her movie and an episode of her show, but it felt like enough to know that we are from such incredibly different worlds that I could never be able to relate to her. And there are many things that I couldn't- selling overpriced kids clothes to Gwyneth Paltrow, or flying across the country on whims to meet boys; not a part of my life. But then there are these other parts that are both hilarious and ridiculous and I either COULD relate (usually unfortunately) or I just came to think of her as a younger sister who gets kinds of exasperating but you know she's trying and you know she's coming from a place of good intentions and love. One thing I don't like about a lot of these modern memoirish books though is the sporadic chapters of lists. They tend to feel like filler.
Found her biphobic, alcoholic, generalising and straight up annoying

kinda honestly shit but I enjoyed it almost as much as the 6+ times I’ve watched girls pretending I hate it
Lena is so funny and this book made me laugh several times. She's not afraid to touch on any subject. Very entertaining read.
Dunham isn't my kind of girl. To be fair, as non-TV watcher, I'm not overly familiar with her work before this book. But since it was touted as a must-read for every twenty-something female...
I mean I get it. I understand what she's trying to say. But I think she is ridiculous. I mean no wonder you have issues, look at the sh*t you got yourself into! And regardless of what scenario, a victim is never to blame, but Dunham could have made different choices, she didn't, and so listening to her whine about how they've messed her up is annoying to the nth degree.
She has some moments where I connected with her, but they are few and far between. Also, as she narrated the audio herself, I found it interesting that she deadpanned almost the entire book - except the lists. As a list lover myself, her animated reading of the lists endeared her to me.
She's entitled and scattered and I'm sure that one day she will mature into a deeply funny and moving writer. But it's just not there. And this was a train wreck.

It's a light, simple, short book, so I'll keep this review the same. "Not that Kind of Girl" was surprisingly entertaining -- I laughed quite a bit, at least for the first several chapters. If you like Dunham's formula, you'll love this book, cover to cover. After a while, I got the impression I was reading about a select bunch of stunts, the comedic and dark ones evenly spaced to be palatable. Does Lena just give herself a different name and act the same in front of a camera? It seems like she might do that on paper...
