This booook! Dear lawd I love this author. Also can we appreciate that he credits his husband for starting the idea for this book. He is also named John and calls him “other John”

In a near-future Britain, a right-wing government's Sanctity of Marriage Act pressures citizens into marriage, punishing those who remain single. Four couples soon discover the oppressive reality of relationships under constant government surveillance, where every word and disagreement is monitored and used to enforce unwavering obedience.

What in the Black Mirror?! This book was a perfect blend of thriller and dystopian science-fiction. I loved the multiple perspectives, even if it did take me quite a long time to differentiate all the characters in my head. This was a fast-paced speculative journey that had me all the way stressed out. Among the quick pacing thriller components of this, there was great character development that led to moments of sadness. What I didn't realize going into this is that this is book two of three in John Marrs' Dark Future trilogy, even though the 3 books all stand alone, they exist in the same universe and I really love when authors do that

Fell asleep while trying to read this book on TWO separate occasions. Found it hard to distinguish between characters and the story was slow to start
