I've enjoyed most of Charlaine Harris' series, but this might just be my favorite (which says a lot, because Gunnie Rose had quite a challenge living up to Lily Bard). I'd been waiting for this book, and it didn't disappoint.

Another exciting, action pact addition to the series as Lizbeth races across the country to save/break Eli from prison and set to right again the unfavorable light his family has found themselves in after the failed plots of the father. Lizbeth find herself with a lot more on her plate then she ever could have imagined and her sister has been keeping some secrets. Loved it!

Gunnie Rose is gifted with a gun and an expert in surviving. The Russian Cage puts Gunnie in situations where she has to adapt, improvise and fake it in a world apart from what she’s used to. I really enjoyed this peek into Eli’s life and family. This story takes their relationship to the next level. I was blown away by this installment and hope we get to visit with her again.

Not my favorite in the series, but ended well and was enjoyable. Had to get about 30% of the way through it to really get into it, other than that it delivered.

"Easy death, Lizbeth."

This one was my favorite in the series. I love that Lizbeth finally gets to travel to HRE - Holy Russion Empire. And she finally got to be the one to arrive for Eli - instead of the other way around. There are grigori around all over there. She gets to see the school, meet some people we've heard about and have some great battles. This one introduces more interesting magic users - once I hadn't remembering hearing about yet.

All in all, it felt like a conclusion to the series and I really liked it.

I always include major spoilers (hidden), to help with my memory  issues. Read them at your peril!

Lizbeth Rose travels to the Holy Russian Empire to free Eli from jail. Whilst there Felix arranges for her to
”save” the tsarina from an assassin
, which gets her into the palace to visit
the tsarina and get permission to visit Eli
. She poses as a cleaner in the palace, and then kills
the tsar’s uncle, inadvertently sparking off a coup attempt by the dead uncle’s family

Thanks to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for sending me this Advance Reading Copy. Expected publication date is February 23, 2021.

This is the third book in Harris’ Gunnie Rose series. After reading this, I really wish I had read the first two installments. I will go back and read them because I enjoyed this one so much. The series follows girl named Lizbeth (Gunnie) Rose. In this future history novel, America has been divided into five distinct areas: The Holy Russian Empire, New America, Texoma, Dixie, and Brittania. Gunnie tries rescue her partner, Prince Eli, from The Holy Russian Empire where he is imprisoned having been accused of murder. Bonus: There’s magic involved!
